Several Kete sites have expressed interest in administrative only fields (such as Donor contact information for an accession, etc.).
This proposed feature would allow a site administrator to mark a field as "private only" for a particular topic type or item type. Thus this private only field would only be available in the form to create or edit private versions and the value of the field of the would never be displayed in public versions of the item nor be provided as an option in the creation or editing forms for public versions.
Thoughts?
An alternative feature is to add two controls to mappings of extended fields to topic types or items types. Something like "user must be a --choose role-- or above to see this field" and "user must be a --choose role-- or above to fill out this field".
This might be preferable since it doesn't force a separate private version of the item and it allows for administrative fields withing baskets that are otherwise quite permissive for collaborating on items.
