Topic: Implemented Enhancement: Gravatar support refinements

Topic type:

Should Gravatar support (personal icon shared between various services on the web, such as wordpresse.com) be enabled by default?

With Kete 1.2 comes the addition of Gravatar support (which as the summary states, is a personal icon shared between various services on the web, see gravatar.com). But should this be enabled by default?

Will it confuse people if their account suddenly gets an image popping up in their comments?

And where would be the best location to indicate Kete has support for that service to the users? Perhaps on signup, account edit, FAQ, or a note in the User Manual topic in Help basket?

Most services which use Gravatar assume the user knows what is it and only do troubleshooting documentation (like Github for example).

Best ways to handle this?

UPDATE:

  • gravatar support was implemented for Kete 1.2
  • it remains off by default
  • the proposed refinements were implemented to make the functionality clearer to the user
